Heritage Festival

Abbie just finished a unit in school learning all about her heritage. I do have to admit that I grumbled through a lot of the activities associated with the unit. But, all things considered Abbie learned a lot about where her family came from, and has a great respect for her classmates heritage also. Her teacher placed a large map outside of her classroom and connected a string between Nevada and the continent each class members ancestors came from. It was really cool to see how we are from all over the world, and now here together in Henderson Nevada.

They did a short program yesterday afternoon with a few songs and folk tales. Abbie was one of the announcers, and she did great memorizing and presenting her lines. After the program we had a "Heritage Feast" with dishes from all over the world. Abbie chose to make a Danish oatmeal cookie that were very delicious. It literally was a huge feast, and was so interesting to try new foods from many different countries. Some of them were recipes passed down from generation to generation. It was a very fun activity that she will most likely always remember.
