Preschool Graduation

Our cute little "Lizzie" graduated from preschool today. She has been so excited for at least a month about her preschool graduation program.

They sang two very cute songs, and then acted out the play "The Little Red Hen." She was a very cute cat that kept saying "Not I said the Cat." I did video tape it, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to load them on my blog. I'll get Micah working on that later. :)

Micah had to go back to work, so Aliza and I celebrated her graduation afterward by going to lunch together and a little shopping at the mall. We had a great time together looking for new clothes for Kindergarten. I'm thrilled that she loves school, and she can't wait to meet her new teacher in August.

We will miss Mrs. Lesly and Mrs. Liz. They kept telling Micah and I how cute and wonderful Aliza was in class. All parents love to hear that. I'm sure she was quite a ham sometimes, and I'm sure they heard all sorts of things about us. They were wonderful teachers.

Heritage Festival

Abbie just finished a unit in school learning all about her heritage. I do have to admit that I grumbled through a lot of the activities associated with the unit. But, all things considered Abbie learned a lot about where her family came from, and has a great respect for her classmates heritage also. Her teacher placed a large map outside of her classroom and connected a string between Nevada and the continent each class members ancestors came from. It was really cool to see how we are from all over the world, and now here together in Henderson Nevada.

They did a short program yesterday afternoon with a few songs and folk tales. Abbie was one of the announcers, and she did great memorizing and presenting her lines. After the program we had a "Heritage Feast" with dishes from all over the world. Abbie chose to make a Danish oatmeal cookie that were very delicious. It literally was a huge feast, and was so interesting to try new foods from many different countries. Some of them were recipes passed down from generation to generation. It was a very fun activity that she will most likely always remember.

Avery Student of the Month

Avery received Student of the month for the month of May. This is her third time being Student of the month in the past 2 1/2 years we have lived in Henderson. We are really excited and proud of her!

They changed the Student of the month luncheons this year to include the parents. I was able to have lunch with Avery, and watch her receive her award. The assistant principal then read them her favorite story while they ate popsicles. It was a lot of fun to spend that time with her. We are so glad that Avery is such a great student.

Choir/Art Show

Abbie had her final choir concert last week, and it was lovely. The theme was "On The Farm" which meant a lot of silly, fun songs and costumes. I took several video's, but this little clip just makes me laugh so I thought I would share it.

After the concert we were able to walk around the school for the art showcase. Each student picked their favorite art piece from their art class to display. Avery's is the top one with rectangles, and Abbie's is below. They did a great job.

Great American Challenge

Avery had her Great America Challenge award program last Friday morning. She did a great job memorizing her parts, and their third grade class sang many patriotic songs.

This is actually two third grade classes together, and I'm not so sure they did a great job with placing these kids. Avery is in the back row and one of the shortest kids in the class. They placed them according to their parts, but it didn't turn out so great.

Avery received a gold medal award for passing off all her requirements.

This is one of my favorite all time teachers. Mrs. Striblen is FANTASTIC to say the least, and I will even miss not being able to chat with her next year. She is one of those kind, loving, wonderful teachers that really stretch the kids to learn so much. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she will still be around when Aliza is in third grade. Congrats Avery on a job well done!

Teacher Appreciation

Last week was teacher appreciation week, and I'm so glad it is over. Don't get me wrong, I love these teachers and think they deserve a nice thank you, but it is a lot of work when  you're involved.

Both of my doors I thought turned out cute. Above is the choir teacher door, and Abbie had the idea of making her into a hula girl to fit the Hawaiian theme. I worked hard to keep her modest, and the kids in the school thought it was so funny. Below is Avery's teachers door and I had each of the kids write things they love about her on each of the flower petals. They were a lot of work, but fun too.

I found some cute idea's on Pinterest that we took to the teachers each day for a fun treat/surprise. I wished I would have taken pictures of them, but in the chaos of it all forgot. My favorite was on the last day of Teacher appreciation each student brought one flower to their teacher. I made a really cute vase covered in #2 pencils and a big fun bow to put the flowers in. It was super cute and easy, so I hope I remember it in years to come.
